SUPREME COURT
The story of Supreme Court is in its own way the saddest on Geobra Island. It was the first great building project undertaken after the Klickies arrived on the island and survived that first harsh winter. In its heyday it was the showplace of the island, and King Bing the undisputed ruler. (He of course had opposition in the bandits of Surewould Forest, but that was a normal part of the Klickie lifestyle.)
However, as the island's children matured, few of them chose the knightly way. Instead, Saffron Cisco led a party to the northwest to found the city that bears her name, while Victoria Regina led another party to the northeast to establish the city of Victoria. King Bing, his knights and ladies, and the bandits of Surewould Forest, held tightly to the old ways, and gradually became 'irrelevant' to the children who were evolving into new, more elaborate Klickies.
Since then a new breed of knights and ladies have come about. Most went to Phantasia to serve either King Louis Whatever or the pretender, King Philip the Great. Neither of these kings claimed a castle, however. Then new knights began appearing, as the children of the children reached adulthood, and these began returning to Supreme Court, but they are not as respectful of King Bing and his entourage as the earlier knights. They seem to feel that Bing has 'had his day', and should retire in the way old Klickies do. King Bing and his retinue do not agree. However, since they lack leadership, the new knights have not made any overt attempts to overthrow the old king and his old ways.
Here is a picture of the castle today. King Bing gave a banquet, and now the guests are leaving. In addition, several common folk appeared at the castle seeking work, and the king turned them away. "Not our kind, dear."

The next pictures show the interior courtyard, and more of the 'old' knights.

This picture is the throne room, and it is one of the greater points of argument. The new knights claim that there could be a much better, grander interior. Here Sir Hollin Tunnell, the Green Dragon Knight, pays his respects (but not homage or fealty) to King Bing, while Lady Bea Goode looks on.

Here are the older inhabitants of Supreme Court.

King Bing himself.
Lady Bea Gooode, the chatelaine of Supreme Court. Rumor has it she dreamed of someday becoming Queen Bea, but this never happened, and probably never will.
Mary N. Haste, the maid in waiting, also known as Maid Mary N. She has a relationship with Rob N. Hood of the bandits of Surewould Forest.
Sharif O. Noddingham, the "law" in Supreme Court. His main job is to keep down the bandits of Surewould Forest, a task at which he has been terribly insufficient. He has a 'tendre' for Maid Mary N., but she continually rejects his suit.
King Bing's officers. He also has a host of unnamed yeomen (not shown).

Sir Fay Lance, the country's supreme jouster, and also head of the secret police.
Sir Rhea List, King Bing's champion. Also a painter of some reknown, although nobody understands his art.
Sir Vyva List, Sir Rhea's brother. Although available when the king calls, he likes to spend his time in the forest, living off the land.
And some of the young knights.

His Grace the Duke of Earl, with his faithful mastiff, also called Duke. The Duke's real name is Earl E. Byrd. Note: there is no duchy of Earl on Geobra Island.
Sir Hollin Tunnell, the Green Dragon knight, protecting his lady fair.
May Denfair, beloved of Sir Hollin Tunnell, in whose honor he performs his knightly feats. However, she seems to be showing an interest in another knightly gentleman...
Sir Victor E. Lapp, of the Duchy of Denver, recently arrived with his magnificent charger Bronco. (Yes, yes, it's the Denver Bronco; there's a long story associated, but there's no time for that now.) Oddly enough, Sir Hollin is also from Denver. Small world, huh? Note again: there is no Duchy of Denver outside the writings of Dorothy L. Sayers.
Here are the doughty commoners that King Bing rejected.

Cole Black Smith, the farrier. An awfully useful fellow to have around. He is reputed to have some magical abilities, as well.. (Note: For information on his name, see the Steeleye Span song "Two Magicians".)
Gar Goyle, the hunchbacked bell-ringer. Since Supreme Court has the only bell on the island, it seemed right for him to seek employment here. Before becoming a bell-ringer, he was a private detective. While working on a difficult case, he suddenly had a hunch.
Deedee Besharp, a minstrel who can sing her name.
Father Forgivem, a priest whose stern discipline belies his name. He is always on the watch for heresy. It is said his name was originally N. Quisitor. His first name is Fahder.
A young squire, name unknown.
These last two are not knights, but are valiant warriors.

Mercer Nairy, a fighting man for hire. Friend of Ferdy Lance of Fiff Thavenu. He is also the leader of a group called the Adventurers, who will be dealt with on another page.
Warren Peace, a brave yeoman whose success in battle is proven by his fine horse and armor.
